From the gallery at a height of 40 meters you will overlook the city and the surrounding area.
The north tower of the church, 63 m high, originally served the town as a watchtower. Its construction was completed at the beginning of the 14th century. From the 16th century until 1924, it was used by a tower keeper who, with his assistants, blew the clock, welcomed distinguished guests with fanfare and guarded the town against fire and enemies.
It was opened to the public in June 1991 as part of the celebration of the 555th anniversary of the Basel Compacts.
