Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary

The three-nave basilica was built shortly after 1250. The outer walls, vaults and three pairs of material arcades remain from the earliest period. A technical peculiarity is the tower from the mid-14th century, which has no foundations of its own, but is built on four large pillars that were created by crossing two main naves inside the church.  

Inside the church, you can admire the remains of early Gothic wall decorations, three statues of saints and especially the fresco of the Assault of Jihlava depicting an event that was significantly inscribed in the history of the town. Note the unusual southern orientation of the whole building. It is directed towards Assisi to commemorate the founder of the Minorite Order, St. Francis.
